OAs vs Bromley RFC
(Away - 22nd September 2007)

Bromley RFC - 7 (0) [1T – 1C]

Old Alleynians - 62 (26) [T: Barnes (3), Hartley (2), Mead, Stevenson, Tedaldi, M Thomas, Woodford; C: Rutteman (6)]

Old Alleynians secured an emphatic away victory at Bromley on Saturday, running in ten tries in a brand of running rugby they are striving for through the course of this season. Given the bye into EDF Energy Junior Vase Round 3 (London) draw, Old Alleynians responded to Bromley’s request for a fixture against their mixed 1/2‘s team and travelled in the expectation of a tough fixture given their first team’s standing in London 4 South East.

Playing up hill in the first half Old Alleynians were soon in their stride and four unanswered first half tries laid the foundations for a comfortable win against a poor Bromley side that didn’t provide the expected level of opposition. Despite travelling without a recognised hooker, the Old Alleynian line out fared well thanks to the accurate throwing of Stevenson, and as the game went on the scrum asserted its dominance. Alongside numerous turnovers, this provided the space out wide for Barnes to complete a well taken hat trick, with two tries for Hartley as well.

An impressive debut by Tedaldi bodes well for the season, while the experienced campaigners Woodford and Mead also crossed for two of the six second half tries. Resolute defence held Bromley out until late in the game before they scored a well taken try from broken play.

Overall an encouraging win and from which to build further given the harder challenges ahead. The first team entertain London Exiles this weekend in their first home fixture of the season, 3pm kick off – all support most welcome.

Team: Woodford, Stevenson, Jaanimagi, Martin, B Thomas, Orr, Hartley, Hood, Kent, Rutteman, Barnes, Mead, Robinson, M Thomas, Tedaldi.

Subs: Brown, Smith, Wright.
