OAs vs Old Wimbledonians
(Away - 20th December 2008)
Old Wimbledonians RFC 13 (13) [1T – 1C - 2P]
Old Alleynians FC 0 (0)
A much improved Old Wimbledonians side took the honours in the first of the season’s reverse fixtures. On a small pitch and playing against the slight wind advantage in the first half Old Alleynians started well before a loose pass in midfield changed the early momentum and Old Wimbledonians grew in confidence.
Too many penalties at the breakdown stifled any continuity before a poor chase from a clearance kick allowed a counterattack which was finished off well under the posts. 13-0 down after 25 minutes and Old Alleynians were chasing the game thereafter.
The second half was scoreless with Old Wimbledonians content to just sit back and defend given space was at a premium. Old Alleynians continued to fall foul of the referee at the line out and ruck area which prevented field possession and pressure. A late Old Alleynians try was rightly disallowed for a forward pass which summed up a disappointing afternoon.
Old Alleynians resume their league campaign at home on the 10th January when they entertain Camberley, with the past players lunch being held up the club on the same day.
