OAs vs Kingston
(Away - 20th October 2007)
Kingston RFC 23 (8) [3T – 1C - 2P]
Old Alleynians FC 5 (0) [T: Mead]
Kingston entertained Old Alleynians on Saturday with victory for either side opening up an early advantage at the top of the Surrey One league table. Kingston won the toss and opted to play up the hill in the first half and started strongly through their forwards.
Kingston’s questionable use of midfield decoy runners opened the scoring wide out on the right when a missed tackle created the overlap. Old Alleynians continued to be under pressure at the set piece but resilient defence kept the line in tact for the rest of the first half, with a notable try saving tackle from Orr. A penalty extended Kingston’s lead to 8-0 while a missed Old Alleynian penalty failed to reduce the arrears at the other end.
With the slope advantage in the second half Kingston looked to kick deep but Foster was equal to the task and comfortably diffused a number of high balls. Kingston were awarded a penalty midway through the half for an infringement at a maul and the resultant kick to the corner saw their second try with a rolling maul driven over.
Kingston’s forward dominance continued through most of the match but with ball in hand, Old Alleynians looked dangerous in midfield and a Robertson half break after 60 minutes created the offload for Mead to score unopposed to the left of the posts.
Old Alleynians conceded a couple of penalties for infringements at the rucks, which were kicked to extend Kingston’s lead. They finished the match with their third try in the left hand corner when further decoy running created the space for the outside centre to feed the winger.
A set back for Old Alleynians but with Old Caterhamians visiting Dulwich this weekend, it offers a chance for an immediate riposte.
