OAs vs Camberley
(Away - 8th November 2008)

Camberley RFC: 18 (8) [3T; 1P]

Old Alleynians FC: 19 (6) [T: Mead, Woodford; P: Docherty (3)]

Old Alleynians recorded their first away league win of the season on Saturday coming from behind to secure a win in the dying minutes of an entertaining encounter at Camberley. Despite being outscored on the try front this was another encouraging display where Old Alleynians maintained their composure and discipline to benefit from Camberley’s mistakes.

With the slight wind advantage at their backs Old Alleynians fell behind 8-0 to an early penalty and then lost out in the race to a chip into the corner to concede a try. Two penalties in reply brought the scoreline back to 8-6 at the interval.

The second half was a tight affair with Old Alleynians looking dangerous in attack but always playing catch up against the scoreboard. Weak defence allowed the Camberley fly half to score a try to extend the lead before Mead replied with a try in the left corner after the Camberley prop was sin binned for a trip. Shortly after Camberley responded when the winger scored his second try of the afternoon with fifteen minutes remaining.

As Camberley started to lose their discipline in defence Old Alleynians were able to take play upfield and a number of close range drives brought success when Woodford went over his second try of the season. With the conversion missed it was a frantic final few minutes as Old Alleynians attempted to gain field position to launch one final attack. With the referee adjudging the Camberley outside centre offside in midfield the successful penalty took Old Alleynians ahead and managed to hold on in the final minute to record a satisfying win.

This weekend Old Alleynians host Old Wimbledonians in a 2.30pm kick off.
