OAs vs Gosport and Fareham
(Home - 1st November 2008)

Old Alleynians FC 29 (10) [T: Mead, Woodford, Van der Westhuizen, Ayres, Barrett; C: Docherty (2)]

Gosport and Fareham RFC 6 (6) [2P]

Old Alleynians bounced back from recent league defeats to register their second league win of the season. In driving wind and rain Old Alleynians ran out comfortable winners scoring five tries in the process. Playing into the elements in the first half it was a tight affair with early handling errors and mistakes gifting G&F field position but the improved Old Alleynian defence of late kept the try line intact.

Two first half penalties were the reward for G&F while tries from Mead in the left corner and a close range drive from Woodford generated a four point lead at half time. With the pack on top, Old Alleynians were able to generate territory and with the G&F defence struggling to contain Barrett in the centre the second half was played largely in the G&F half.

A catch and drive line out from a penalty saw Van der Westhuizen score for the second consecutive week and when the game opened up Ayres finished well in the corner and Barrett strolled through two weak G&F tackles to score under the posts.

It was an encouraging display on which to build ahead of a number of important fixtures against the other mid-table sides. Thanks to the spectators who braved the weather and supported the team.

This weekend Old Alleynians travel to Camberley (2.30pm kick off).

Team: Woodford, Franklin, Van der Westhuizen, Juuko, Richardson, Thomas, Hartley, Mahoney, Kent, Docherty, Mead, Barrett, Robertson, Obaro, Ayres.

Subs: Brown, Sandars, Wisson.
