About Old Alleynians

The Old Alleynian Football Club (playing rugby football!) was formed in 1898 and has enjoyed considerable success over the years, culminating with the 1st XV winning the Powergen Junior Vase at Twickenham in 2003.

The Youth Section of the club was set up in 2000, in response to a growing demand for rugby facilities for younger players. Our rugby is carried out in accordance with the RFU Rugby Continuum - a planned progression of skills related to young peoples' growth over time. We have strong links with Dulwich College, local schools, the Kent R.F.U. and also other local clubs. We mostly play teams in Kent but also have frequent matches and festivals with nearby Surrey teams. Some Junior sides play in Surrey leagues.

Although we are linked to Dulwich College (the Old Alleynians are ex-pupils of Dulwich College), we are now a fully open club and children from any school are welcome to play here. Currently there are more than 70 different schools represented at the club.

The fixture list is a good blend of training days, structured development days (training with other clubs), matches (with prhaps 2 or 3 other clubs) and festivals, with as many as 20 clubs taking part. We have recently started taking selected sides "on tour" at the end of the season.

The ground is situated in very pleasant surroundings in Dulwich. There are many transport links to the club including 8 bus routes and 2 local train stations. We have parking for around 100 cars.

Our facilities include 2 full size rugby pitches, 4 'mini' (U6-U8) pitches and a newly drained area for 'midi' (U9-U12) teams. We also have a spacious clubhouse with a large bar and fully equipped function room, plus a separate changing room block. Refreshments are available most Sundays from the kitchen and the bar is open every Sunday (when there is a home fixture) during the season. Everyone is also encouraged to come along and support the senior sides when they are playing at home on a Saturday afternoon.

We often hold social events including a Christmas/New Year children’s party, quiz nights, end of season awards ceremonies and regular barbeques.

We aim to provide rugby for boys and girls from all walks of life and our main emphasis is to ensure the children enjoy their rugby, regardless of their talent or ability, in a safe and supportive environment.
