Another match with less than a full team. We started the first over with only eight on the field but the recruits from Saturday swelled our numbers to ten. Old Tiffs set out their stall in the first over with very aggressive batting. This lead to a few runs but an immediate wicket caught by Adrian after the ball was edged high over his head off a bouncer. This was to be our only break through whilst Tiffs smashed the ball around the park. A couple of genuine dropped catches and a couple of half chances gave one batsmen more than his fair share of luck but the other batsmen played very well smashing 121. Some excellent tight bowling by JC and Ian finally slowed the scoring rate down from nearly 10 an over. A good catch at long-on by Shafiq finally dismissed the man with nine lives but it took an excellent delivery a few overs later by JC to finally remove the number three. Their score had already reached 273 for 4 and a league record looked possible but some good bowling revealed a lack of depth in their batting and they were all out for 304 thanks to Shafiq taking 5 wickets in 19 balls. A good paced start to our innings was ensured by Imran and Adrian who kept the run-rate going at around 6 an over until Tiffs brought their spinners into the attack and the run-rate slowed. This lead to frustration and four wickets fell for 30 runs. A win was now out of the question but Gavin and David then put on 46 runs for the fifth wicket giving the OAs a chance of taking maximum bonus points if the side could muster another 47 runs. Gavin continued to bat doggedly and with some wonderful shots and help from Ian and Charlie steered us to 200. For the second Sunday in a row Charlie hit a four to let us reach our target although in the friendly last week it was to win the match. This result was a great effort by everyone who played and my thanks especially to the three reserves who made a match possible at all.
