Another good performance from a much weakened side saw the OA's collect four points. Omar Faruqui once again was amongst the wickets taking 4 to bring his season's total to 13 at a shade over 10 a piece. He was ably supported by Glen Marrillier, Chief Patel and James Williams on a very slow pitch. The general feeling at tea was that it had been a good toss to win but that Streatham had perhaps prolonged their innings too much in reaching 182-8 off 55 overs. A total probably worth at least 230 on a normal day.     It always looked like the winning draw should be attainable and that the win was probably out of reach. When James Williams was bowled pulling a ball that perhaps kept a bit low after only a couple of overs any realistic chance was gone. Adrian Birt once again looked a good find and Steve Mayers came in and timed the ball well. Birt survived a close call for a run out before two orchestrated LBW appeals in an over proved to much for the umpire and he was gone. Omar Faruqui showed that despite opposition comments that we were a one man team that his batting has yet to hit the heights of his bowling this season. Andy McKee arrived to do a Captains job and he and Mayers put on 50 to take the OA's within sight of the 123 need to snatch the winning draw. At this point with 25 needed Mayers fell to a fine caught and bowled and when Julian White rapidly followed those of us who are veterans of OA cricket started to wonder if it could all still go wrong. We needn't have worried as the skipper ably supported by Casper Branson saw us to the 4 points with an over to spare Andy finished on 46 not out and is now averaging 82 for the season I'm a definitely a number five now he was heard to remark after the game. His biggest headache at the moment seems to be not where the next run will come from but the next player. This week after much arm twisting he had to resort to Julian White's brother Andy, whose fielding was excellent and included a direct hit that could and probably should have resulted in a run out, and more worryingly yours truly whose fielding was not anywhere near as good including as it did a bad miss at mid-wicket. It was however nice to complete the full set of OACC XI's having made my Sunday league debut last week. There is no truth in the rumour though that I will be propping for the first XV next year.
